WEBE Wellness: Avoid Bad Habits And Look Younger!

WEBE Wellness: Avoid Bad Habits And Look Younger!

We all want to do what we can to feel younger as we age, but there are things we can easily do so we continue to look younger as well. There are some bad habits to avoid that make us age faster.

First, quit smoking – all kinds, including vaping, are bad for your skin.

As the days get longer, avoid hanging out in the sun – and make sure you apply sunscreen when you do go out.

Change your diet so you’re not loaded down with lots of sugar and saturated fats that make skin age faster. Plus, make sure you exercise, you help keep muscle and bone density.

Too much alcohol will also damage cells that accelerates aging. And reduce stress in your life and try to get a good night’s sleep – both will help you look younger as you’re more relaxed and rested.

Finally – brush your teeth – gingivitis has been linked to heart disease, and nicer teeth certainly help with your appearance!

WEBE Wellness: Don’t Use These Products When Treating Cuts

WEBE Wellness: Don’t Use These Products When Treating Cuts

Well this is something we’ve all been doing wrong our entire lives.

It’s apparently one of the biggest first aid myths – when you have a cut, don’t use hydrogen peroxide to clean it. Nor should you use rubbing alcohol!

Most of us had our parents do it for us when we were little and still do it today. And it’s true that they do kill bacteria – but they also apparently kill skin cells.

Both hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol cause “corrosive tissue damage” which can slow the healing process and make scars more likely.

The better bet is to rinse your cut with water and just use antibiotic ointment.

WEBE Wellness: Nutrition Myths

WEBE Wellness: Nutrition Myths

If it always seems like what’s good for your diet and what’s bad is always changing, then it’s time to look at nutrition myths.

The first myth is that eating healthily is too expensive. Sure, some powders are, but fruits and veggies usually aren’t, and frozen ones are cheaper, and just as good for you.

Also, if you always select fat-free options because they’re “better” for you, you may end up eating more since fat is what helps us feel full longer.

Egg whites over whole eggs are yet another myth – while they have less fat and calories you miss out on a ton of vitamins from the yolks.

And finally, whether salt is bad for you. Too much of it is, sure, but it’s also essential because you get electrolytes. Especially if you exercise a lot, because you’ll need to replenish them.

WEBE Wellness: Drink More Water!

WEBE Wellness: Drink More Water!

When you get a headache, what’s the first thing you do? You probably grab a pain reliever – but that might not be what you actually need.

If you do it, make sure you take a full glass of water with it – not just a sip – you could actually be dehydrated.

Think about all the sodas and the coffee and tea you have during any given day – none of that helps you.

A new poll shows what we normally do when we have dehydration symptoms.

• When people have a headache 43% take a painkiller, but only 1 in 6 drink water.
• If you feel dizzy, 45% of us lie down, but only 18% will drink a glass of water.
• Constantly feeling tired – only 15% hydrate, most just take a nap.
• Dry mouth…well that’s the one when everyone goes for the faucet!

The average person thinks they only need one extra 8-oz. glass for their daily diet, but it turns out most of us need at least four more than that! The top reason we don’t drink more water is because we forget to.

An easy solution is to get one of those water bottles with the hourly markers on it – fill it up in the morning on your way out the door and stay on target throughout the day – and you’ll feel better!

It’s the end of the workday, and as you think back on the day – was there someone you constantly avoided? Someone you can’t stand to be around? Someone you actually…hate?

Well, avoiding them is one path to take – if they’re harassing you, you may need to go to HR – but if you think it’s a working relationship that can be salvaged, here are some ways to handle it yourself:

Be empathetic – even if you don’t think so, you should be open to the possibility that you might be contributing to the problem. Or think about what’s causing it – we’ve all been more stressed out over the last year, and there could be stuff behind the scenes you may not know about.

Look for commonality – it could be about anything from talking up a TV show you both watch, or try to include them in drinks after work – an olive branch can turn things around fast.

Be friends with everyone else – it’s a lot harder for them to make your life difficult if everyone likes you!

WEBE Wellness: Why You Should Exercise At Night

WEBE Wellness: Why You Should Exercise At Night

Some of us exercise before work, some when we head home – but is there a better time of day to do it – morning, noon, or night?

A new study shows that those who exercise in the evening have a far lower risk of death compared to those who don’t exercise – 61% lower!

There are a few theories as to why the night is better overall – and it may have to do with how our bodies handle blood sugar later in the day. And it may lower our blood pressure for the evening, causing it to further drop into the next morning.

And there’s still good news for those who worked out in the morning, it lowered risk by 33% – and for those in the afternoon it was 40%.

So, no matter what time you exercise, doing some is far better than doing nothing.
